Coaching
I have worked for 10 years as an Occupational Therapist with people with mental health problems, all different ages of people. This has given me many valuable skills enabling me to work with people during difficult times in their life. I have worked with people with anxiety, depression, memory difficulties, Autism, brain injury and in crisis. I am a very good listener, and of course I too have lost 2 babies at different stages of pregnancy so can empathise. While I may not have experienced all the same experience, or feelings as yourself, I would certainly be able to understand what has happened to cause your feelings. I communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing. I am skilled in working with clients, supporting them to choose their own goals and work towards them.
More recently I became a life coach. I believe that life coaching is very beneficial to people in many situations, including following difficult life events. Life coaching can offer similar benefits to counselling, in that I would be able to listen to you talk and get things of your chest, and comfort you. Indeed because it is not face to face, strong emotions can be expressed more easily. It also has some differences that would make it compliment any counselling you recieve. I am happy to work alongside a counsellor.
Through specific techniques I would work with you to explore your goals – both for the duration of all our sessions, and at the beginning of each session. This means that you are in control of what we work on together and you can see a clear progression through our time together. Coaching can be more proactive than counselling – so rather than being purely a space for you to discuss your feelings, it also can offer techniques to help you move forward with your goals. It can help you to feel as if you are regaining some control.
I know through my experience of my losses that the time of rebuilding a life that is different to what was, and not what you expected it to be can be pretty tough. I’ve used some techniques myself to help me begin to rebuild a new normal. I would hope that it can help you also.
You can choose to work with me over the phone, skype call, or skype chat. Skype is a free programme to download and use. You would need either a built in microphone, or headset on your computer to use the chat facility. Each session would be for 1 hour. I will make some brief notes during the call, and will email you these notes within 3 days of the session. You may choose to review them and refer to them between sessions and some people like to keep them and review them later. At the end of our time working together, I will destroy my copy of these notes. I would never share these with anybody – if you wish to share them this is your choice. They will be stored safely during the time that we work together.
